Prudent Engineering has been retained by the NYSDOT through the Design-Build process to provide construction inspection services for the replacement of the bridge (BIN 1061330) carrying SR 427 over the Chemung River in the Town of Chemung, New York.
Due to structural deficiencies, the existing bridge requires full replacement. As such, this necessitates demolishing and reconstructing this two-lane bridge spanning the Chemung River. The existing seven-span bridge measures 802 feet long by 46.8 feet wide, and is built on concrete cast-in-place piles bolstered by steel multi girders. While the new structure will measure approximately the same length, its overall width will be reduced to about 36 feet. Prudent’s staff is providing on-site construction inspection services for highway approach and bridge/intersection replacement operations. Highway work specifically involves installing new approaches, on and off alignments, and connecting the new bridge structure to the approach roadways. Given the size and complexity of this bridge replacement project, Prudent’s inspection team is coordinating the WZTC plan to maintain the safety of workers and the traveling public. WZTC is also being managed to effectively maintain on-site traffic flows, as adjacent roadway flooding impedes using an offsite detour.
