  • Role

    Objectives:
Prudent provided design services that addressed a deteriorating section of marine retaining wall in the original Erie Canal stretching through the Village of Fairport, New York.

Prudent's Civil Engineering - Special Projects Design Team, led by Project Manager Dan Huffaker, engineered a solution for a collapsing 450-linear-foot section of marine retaining wall in the original Erie Canal running through the business district of the Village of Fairport, New York. The scope of the design work also addressed 2,585 linear feet of adjacent canal trail way used by pedestrians and bicyclists.

Prudent sought community and shareholder engagement prior to beginning the project in recognition of the Village's efforts to enhance the central business core and waterfront, both of which serve as destinations for residents and tourists. The overall success of the project depended on the design and constructability of three key components: The first involved "dewatering" the site to gain access to the wall for removal and reconstruction; the second component was working in close proximity to private property; and the third addressed rebuilding the wall under a compressed construction schedule.

Prudent's Special Projects Design Team has been recognized by the American Council of Engineering Companies - NY (ACEC-NY) with a 2015 Silver Award for the design work completed on this project.
