Prudent’s primary clients are state and local agencies such as the New York State (NYS) Department of Transportation, NYS Thruway Authority, NYS Canal Corporation, PennDOT and county highway departments. 

 

We have an opportunity for a full-time Junior Engineer for Bridge/Structural Design and Inspection. This is a field position based out of our East Syracuse, or Rochester, New York offices. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Scope of Duties: 

 

The following are typical but not all-encompassing duties of this position: 

 

  • Under the direct supervision of a Bridge Inspection Team Leader (licensed P.E.) in the field, utilize suitable equipment to gain access, prepare for and collect measurements necessary to document condition of various bridge or other structural system components; 

 

  • Conduct field operations in a safe and responsible manner, consistent with OSHA requirements and in compliance with established Safety policies; 

 

  • Maintain detailed and organized field notes and sketches, or collect photographs as required to document bridge element conditions; 

 

  • Assist the Team Leader in preparing and checking calculations for section loss, utilize the EAM BDIS software and CIMS application to contribute to Inspection Report preparation; 

 

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and be physically capable of performing the physical tasks associated with conducting bridge and other structure inspections, such as operating hand and power tools, climbing ladders, traversing embankment slopes, riding in boats and on mobile elevating work platform equipment and scaffolding, and wading in water; 

 

  • Participate in required training related to the safe and efficient performance of job duties as an Assistant Team Leader. 

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • BS Civil Engineering from ABET accredited program; or 

 

  • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, combined with 2 years of bridge experience in bridge or structure design, construction, or inspection. 

 

  • Ability to work safely adjacent to traffic, traverse slopes and uneven terrain, work at heights, climb on ladders, work on scaffolding and on aerial lift equipment, in and around water, in confined spaces and under adverse weather conditions. 

 

  • Proficient with Windows based computer use, including MS Office and MS TEAMS applications to assist with report preparation and management of inspection data and records. Experience using NYSDOT EAM/Bridge Data Information System (BDIS) or NYS Canal Corporation Canal Infrastructure Management System (CIMS) is a plus. 

 

  • Experience with bridges, culverts, dams, canals, and water control structures is a plus. 

 

  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. 

 

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000*
